New Mexico United forward and fan favorite Daniel Bruce suffered a season-ending ACL & meniscus injury during a training session late last week, the club announced Wednesday.
Bruce, the only remaining member of the squad from the inaugural 2019 season, was injured prior to Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Charleston and was not on the game's active roster. Bruce, who is greeted by chants of "Bruuuuuce" when he touches the ball at home matches, said he is grateful for the well wishes he's received since his injury.
“The love and encouragement from family, friends and the club has been amazing.” Bruce said in a club release. “I truly appreciate all the support in this challenging moment. Thank you New Mexico, Somos Unidos!”
A 29-year-old from Warrington, England, Bruce is United's career leader in appearances (169 in all competitions) and assists (21) and has 17 career goals. He appeared in 10 USL Championship matches this season, notching an assist in 187 minutes.
