Vote: High school football star of Week 7

Published Modified

Here's a look at the high school football players who filled the stat sheets in Week 7. Which player should be this week's star? Cast your vote below.

Kamal Stith, sr., QB, St. Michael’s

Stith had a hand in all seven touchdowns for the Horsemen on Saturday in a 39-point victory in Albuquerque against Hope Christian. He passed for 240 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for two scores in a monster performance.

Chance Whitmire, sr., PK, La Cueva

Whitmire earned the honor of being the first non-position player to make our Stars of the Week list this season. As well he should be on this week’s list. We have a soft spot for placekickers, and Whitmire on Friday night nailed four field goals — covering 47 yards, 40, 39 and 27 — without a miss for the Bears.

Gage Conway, sr., WR/K/P, Albuquerque Academy

Conway returned to the Chargers’ lineup and his presence was immediately and urgently felt as the Chargers upset St. Pius. Conway practically took over the game in the fourth quarter, with two memorable touchdown receptions, and he also added a pick-6 to end the game.

Victor Aguilar Jr., sr., RB, West Mesa

Aguilar was a beast on Saturday for the Mustangs, rushing 23 times for 273 yards, and scoring four touchdowns for West Mesa in a 55-point outing for the Mustangs in a District 2-6A victory against Atrisco Heritage.

Danny Amaro, sr., RB, Las Cruces

It almost wouldn’t be a complete list without a mention of Amaro, who has been a touchdown machine for Class 6A’s top-ranked Bulldawgs. This was never more true than Friday, when Amaro reached the end zone six times in a lopsided road win at Clovis.

NOTE: If you would like to nominate a player for the weekly list, his name and statistics must be submitted to Journal Preps Editor James Yodice by 5 p.m. each Saturday, at jyodice@abqjournal.com, or @JamesDYodice on X.
