Here's a look at the high school football players who filled the stat sheets in Week 8. Which player should be this week's star? Cast your vote below.

Jhett Kinghorn, sr., FS, La Cueva

On the biggest night of the La Cueva season, it was Kinghorn’s frenetic presence that stood out most. He had a touchdown on special teams by recovering a blocked punt, and he also returned an interception 42 yards for a score. He added a second pick, and also recovered a fumble for the Bears in a huge win at Los Lunas.

Alberto Landeros, sr., RB, Albuquerque High

Landeros is one of 6A’s most undervalued running backs. Friday in a win over West Mesa, he shined brightly with 286 rushing yards on 20 carries, and three touchdowns.

Junior Medrano, jr., QB, Hobbs

In the Eagles’ crucial Friday night win against Centennial, Medrano was the very working definition of dual threat. He threw for 154 yards and four touchdowns, and he rushed for 146 additional yards and a score.

Robert Castañeda, sr., WR, Carlsbad

The Cavemen’s 30-25 road win Friday at Alamogordo was hugely important in the District 3-6A standings, and Castañeda played a very large role in this win, catching nine balls for 205 yards. He scored two touchdowns.

Josh Cordova, sr., RB, Santa Rosa

The top-ranked Lions are blessed with two excellent running backs. On Friday, Cordova had his best night of the season, rushing for 170 yards and two scores, and he also intercepted a pass in a victory over Estancia.
