Francine Puritz Cogen Francine Puritz Cogen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 13, 2025. Born on October 26, 1945 in Miami, Florida, she was known for her outgoing personality and exceptional passion for life. Francine is preceded in death by her husband Peter Cogen. They started dating in high school and were married for 48 years. Francine is survived by daughter Jennifer Cogen, grandchildren Isabel and Max Silverman; son Andrew Cogen (daughter-in-law Allison Cogen), grandchildren Owen and Lila Cogen; and brother Lauren Puritz. Francine graduated from Miami Beach High, then from University of Miami with a Bachelor of Education in 1967, and subsequently a Master of English Education in 1969. A life long learner, she obtained a Master of Reading from Florida Atlantic University in 1973. Francine and family relocated to New Mexico in the 1970s, where she taught reading at a title one school, approaching her students with empathy and humor. She became a real estate broker, working alongside her husband. Her many passions for engagement with others included being an avid reader, hiker, traveler and active grandparent. "Franny" wished to live every day to its fullest: never shy, always willing to try new experiences and meet new people, and dance to her heart's content. A Celebration of Life will be held in Albuquerque at a later date, as well as a service in Telluride, Colorado, her second residence for 25 years.
