The New Mexico Department of Wildlife announced New Mexico residents that receive Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program benefits are eligible for a 25% discount on hunting and fishing licenses.

“This discount will help make hunting and fishing more accessible to thousands of New Mexicans,” Mike Sloane, department director, said in a news release. “With this discount, eligible participants will have increased accessibility to healthy, natural food sources.”

The New Mexico Health Care Authority will provide NMDW with a list of current SNAP recipients between Jan. 1-10. Those who become eligible for SNAP benefits after Jan. 10 must visit one of the department offices in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, Las Cruces or Raton to verify eligibility before purchasing discounted licenses. Refunds will not be provided for full-price license purchases made before eligibility verification.

For more information, contact the NMDW’s information center at 888-248-6866 or visit wildlife.dgf.nm.gov.
