The Albuquerque International Sunport lifted a shelter-in-place order issued Monday morning following what officials said was a “potential security threat” in the parking structure.

The threat that Sunport received turned out to be false, but Albuquerque Police Department Aviation Police and detection K-9s conducted checks at the airport to ensure travelers' safety, said Gilbert Gallegos, a spokesperson with APD.

"Information was obtained from multiple sources that the same threat, including time and type, were made at different airports across the country," he said.

The shelter-in-place order was made "out of an abundance of caution," said Diane Lopez, a spokesperson for the Sunport.

Ticket counters and baggage claim were shut down at around 9:30 a.m. and the parking structure was closed while police investigated. Roughly 30 minutes later, the shelter-in-place order was lifted and airport operations resumed.
