Topes Today for Monday 5/12

Off Day

SUNDAY: When the day comes, Aaron Schunk will be able to truthfully tell his grandchildren he homered off Clayton Kershaw. Homers by Schunk, Trevor Boone and Waming Bernabel paced the Isotopes to a 6-3 victory over the Oklahoma City Comets and a split of a six-game series at Chickasaw Brickyard Ballpark.

After the Comets jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings, Albuquerque pitchers shut them out on three hits thereafter. Oklahoma outhit the Isotopes 7-6, but the ‘Topes made theirs count.

Kershaw, who has a 212-95 career won-lost record with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is in Oklahoma City on a rehab assignment. He shut out the Isotopes in the first three innings before giving up Schunk’s two-run homer — just his second of the season — in the fourth. Kershaw has yet to pitch for the Dodgers this season.

After Monday’s off day, the Isotopes return home to begin a six-game series against Tacoma, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. First pitch at Isotopes Park on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
