Danielle Casey to step down as president and CEO of Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance
Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance President and CEO Danielle Casey will depart the organization in August to take over the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.
The nonprofit known as AREA announced the transition Wednesday afternoon. AREA Senior Vice President Chad Matheson will serve as interim president and CEO upon Casey’s departure Aug. 1.
Casey starts as president and CEO of the Nevada-based organization on Aug. 25 after five years of leading one of New Mexico’s prominent economic development agencies, often involved with large-scale expansions.
“Serving AREA has been the greatest professional privilege of my career,” Casey said in a statement. “Together, we have built a stronger, more strategic and more impactful organization poised to support the long-term economic vitality of the greater Albuquerque region.”
In 2021, Casey helped lead AREA through a rebrand from Albuquerque Economic Development Inc. and started its transition from a 501(c)(6) business association to a 501(c) (3) charitable organization. She also helped develop a new strategic plan, bylaws and governance structure for AREA, according to the news release.
AREA’s board of directors will conduct a national search to permanently fill the president and CEO role. Board Chair Don Tarry described Casey’s impact on AREA and the region’s economy as profound.
“We are grateful for her service, proud of what we’ve accomplished together and wish her continued success in Las Vegas,” he said in a statement. “We’re equally confident in Chad’s ability to ensure we do not skip a beat during this transition.”
