Filing fatigue? Here are some ways to deduct stress on Tax Day
Haven’t filed your taxes yet? You’re not the only one. Feeling stressed about it? Yep, you’re not alone there either.
Some sugary treats and relaxing services offered around Albuquerque could help ease your worries as you file your taxes Tuesday, the deadline for tax payments and filings.
Nearly a third of Americans delay filing their taxes and New Mexico ranks No. 16 for top tax procrastinators, according to a 2025 report from Investment Property Exchange Services Inc.
The report indicated the top reason Americans put off filing is because they find the process too complicated and stressful.
Here are some avenues for relief that last-minute tax filers may be able to find, through local freebies and perks:
- The franchise Kona Ice is offering free shaved ice cups in Albuquerque Tuesday at 1421 North Renaissance NE, from 12-1 p.m. The Kentucky-based mobile shaved ice franchise with more than 1,000 trucks in 49 states said it’s turning Tax Day into National Chill Out Day, abiding by a motto the company dubbed “No Taxation Without Relaxation.”
- At Krispy Kreme, customers who on Tuesday purchase any dozen doughnuts for the regular price can receive a second dozen of the original glazed doughnuts at a discounted price. Customers who order a dozen online for pickup or delivery can also use the promo code TAXBREAK to receive a second original glazed dozen for free. Albuquerque’s three Krispy Kreme locations are at 3709 Ellison NW, 2270 Wyoming NE and 2670 Coors NW and have varying hours, often between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- Ziggi’s Coffee is offering customers who make a purchase on Tax Day a scratch ticket with a surprise deal that can be redeemed anytime between April 15-22. The deal could be buy-one, get-one deal; 50% off seasonal drinks; or $1 off breakfast burritos or sandwiches. Ziggi’s two Albuquerque locations, at 6000 Montgomery NE and 5200 Menaul NE, are open 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Planet Fitness is offering free HydroMassages to members and nonmembers at any of its locations nationwide. A HydroMassage, usually an amenity for top-membership subscribers, uses heated water jets via a reclining massage chair to relieve tight muscles. Anyone 18 and over can access the offer with a valid ID through April 19. Most locations are open 24 hours, with some open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
