“You have to build a reputation. You have to build a presence.”

That’s what V. Brian D’Andrea, chairman and CEO of TechSource, said of his company last month receiving the U.S. Department of Energy’s fiscal year 2023 Small Business of the Year award.

It’s a manifestation, he said, of many years of work by TechSource, a business management consultant based in Los Alamos.

“This award recognizes the collective effort of our entire cohort over many years,” D’Andrea said.

D’Andrea said the 25-year-old company started out as a small group of experienced linear accelerator scientists.

Now, the company has more than 500 advanced scientists, engineers and industry leaders with expertise on the full nuclear material management life cycle and, more recently, is expanding into solution sets for highly regulated operations or technical subjects, D’Andrea said.

He said the company is focused on government contracting but also supplies corporate memory expertise.

“We really are close collaborators,” he said.

The company’s largest customer base is in Los Alamos and Washington, D.C., D’Andrea said, and it’s also trying to increase its already growing presence in Albuquerque.

The Department of Energy award helps boost TechSource’s credentials and presence, he added.

Contracting is very competitive, he said, and the award ensures TechSource is a known player.

Earlier this month, the DOE awarded a $30 billion management and operations contract to PanTeXas Deterrence, which TechSource is a member of.

“This contract award reaffirms TechSource’s position as a trusted partner in the national security mission space,” TechSource President and Chief Operations Office Jeff Giangiuli said in a statement.

D’Andrea said TechSource has a lot of support from the federal government.

“We’re very much engaged and supported by them because we’re working on federal government programs and projects,” he said.

He said the fundamental elements of TechSource’s business model are the lean and efficient infrastructure and commitment to client missions.

“We see our role in this national security arena, particularly, as something we’re going to stay involved in,” D’Andrea said.

“We’re very committed to it.
