M’tucci’s Bar Roma is set to get a lively upgrade with the help of a grant aimed at supporting experiences that build community and benefit tourism.

The fine Italian eatery, at 3222 Central SE in Nob Hill, has been awarded a $10,000 grant to fund a project that will revitalize the restaurant’s outdoor patio with lively entertainment aimed at showcasing “the spirit of Route 66,” a news release said.

Acts that have been scheduled, according to a news release and depending on weather, include:

Howie Kaibel, brand manager for M’tucci’s Restaurants, said the funding is being used to facilitate a music series featuring live performances every weekend through October. The funding will allow the restaurant to host a mix of bigger acts and smaller local acts, offering a selection of music “that grounds people in the history of New Mexico,” Kaibel said.

The grant comes from Visit Albuquerque’s Tourism Grant Program, which awarded $500,000 to 32 projects this year, according to Brooke Jung, vice president of destination development and community engagement for Visit Albuquerque.

M’tucci’s Bar Roma received a $10,000 grant from the program last year as well, which was used to improve the patio with misters and more shade.

“First, we wanted to make sure that we had a space that was very comfortable to stay awhile, and now we’re giving them a reason to stay,” Kaibel said of the upgrades and music series.

M’tucci’s Restaurants has four locations across Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. M’tucci’s Bar Roma opened in 2022 inside a property that was built in 1939 and holds a historic designation from the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division.

The history of the building and its location on Route 66 are “what make that restaurant such a gem,” Kaibel said.

“I think it’s really affirming that (Visit Albuquerque) understands that small businesses are the heart of what’s going to keep Route 66 flourishing for the next 100 years,” he said.
