New Mexico Gas Co. to add digital wallet payment option for customers starting Friday
New Mexico Gas Co.’s headquarters in the Northeast Heights in Albuquerque in 2023. The utility is adding digital wallet payment options starting Friday.
Starting Friday, New Mexico Gas Co. customers can use a digital wallet to pay their monthly gas bills.
The utility is adding PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Apple Pay and Google Pay to its list of accepted payment options, NMGC announced via news release Monday.
In addition to the new payment methods, NMGC takes American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit and debit cards, one-time and recurring automatic transfers from checking and savings accounts, and payments via phone, mail or in person, said NMGC spokesperson Tim Korte.
The fee for using a credit or debit card or a digital wallet will be 20 cents cheaper, too. NMGC is lowering its $1.95 credit card fee to $1.75 beginning Friday, Korte said. The gas company is also eliminating the $1.95 fee for one-time and recurring bank account payments — online or by phone — and will now offer them at no cost for both residential and commercial customers, Korte added.
“We are making these changes because customers expect a range of payment options and we want to make it easier and more convenient for them to pay their monthly gas bills,” Korte said.
Customers who prefer to make payments in person can still do so at any of NMGC’s walk-in payment centers across the state, Korte said, or they can mail payments via the envelope provided with their bill or visit a Western Union location.
Customers who are already signed up to pay their gas bills via autopay do not need to make any changes to their accounts, according to the release.
As part of the change, the gas company will not accept online or automated telephone payments between 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12.
