Northeast Heights Flix Brewhouse officially opens
Flix Brewhouse’s new Northeast Heights location was still under construction in mid-April but the freshly renovated theater is now up and running on the corner of Indian School and Tramway NE.
Just two weeks ago, Albuquerque’s second Flix Brewhouse was still buzzing with construction. Now, the freshly renovated theater is buzzing with the sounds of movie showings and popcorn crunching.
Flix Brewhouse CEO Chance Robertson told the Journal in an April 21 Business Outlook podcast that he hoped to open the Northeast Heights location either May 1 or 2 under a “best case scenario.” Robertson’s hopes came true, as the freshly innovated theater officially opened its doors at 12921 Indian School NE on Thursday night, a news release from the company announced.
“We’re thrilled at the opportunity to continue to invest in Albuquerque,” Robertson said in a statement.
Albuquerque is the first and currently only market to have two Flix Brewhouse locations, the news release said.
“This location allows us to not only join another great community in my hometown, but also bring a bit of Flix magic to the East Side and East Mountain residents who’ve been asking for our cinema experience,” Robertson’s statement said.
Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks by Robertson, Flix founder Allan Reagan and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, the opening lineup of movies that hit the theater’s seven big screens included “Thunderbolts,” “The Accountant 2,” “Sinners,” “Minecraft” and “Warfare.”
The opening celebration will linger throughout May with a special offering dubbed “$5.05 Mondays,” a series that will showcase films made in New Mexico, the news release said. The series will also come with $2 pours of New Mexico-brewed beers.
The opening of the second location will be good for the theater’s brewing business, as it will expands Flix’s brewing capacity in Albuquerque from 1,500 barrels to 2,250 barrels annually, the release said.
With the theater’s 700 recliners ready for guests and the in-house brewing and food service encompassing a more than 40-item menu now up and running, tickets are officially on sale at flixbrewhouse.com.
