The Public Service Company of New Mexico is seeking at least 900 megawatts of new energy resources to come online between 2029 and 2032.

The electric utility issued a request for proposals on Monday to meet its 2032 capacity range of 900-2,900 megawatts, per its 2023 Integrated Resource Plan filed with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.

PNM in 2031 plans to exit its minority ownership from the coal-fired Four Corners Power Plant, according to the company, so the RFP will help identify potential replacement resources.

Proposed resources to replace the power plant must get approval from the PRC in a separate application, according to PNM.

The utility’s 2024 power portfolio was 72% carbon-free and had a capacity of 4,268 megawatts.
