VetsInTech launches New Mexico chapter Friday
A national nonprofit that helps veterans get started in the technology industry is putting down roots in New Mexico.
San Francisco-based VetsInTech is launching its New Mexico chapter and holding an employee summit in Santa Fe Friday afternoon at the New Mexico Military Museum. The goal is to spread awareness to veterans and employers about what veterans can bring to tech spaces.
There are around 122,492 veterans living in New Mexico, ranking it 17th in the nation in terms of concentration of veterans in 2023, according to the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
Veterans are an “suntapped resource” for the workforce, said Mike Rogers, New Mexico chapter lead for VetsInTech.
Rogers recently retired from the military and was looking for a way into the tech industry when he found out about VetsInTech. So, he said, he volunteered to head the New Mexico chapter and help build out the veteran tech network here.
“Trying to drive that here so that were a good place for people to land,” he said.
The Friday event will feature remarks from Economic Development Secretary Rob Black, an employer discussion and a networking reception.
Anyone interested in attending can RSVP online at VetsInTech’s Eventbrite page.
