The stage has gone quiet at Voodoo Girl Pies & Pints in Downtown Albuquerque.

Voodoo Girl — known for its brick-oven pizza, local beer and live music — announced in late August that it is closing indefinitely.

The closure came nearly two weeks earlier than planned, the eatery said, due to a lack of staff and “other uncontrollable circumstances,” said a letter taped to the door of the business and posted to the Albuquerque Foodies Facebook group.

The reason for the farewell was not provided, and the owners did not respond to a request for comment. In the letter posted to the business’s door, the owners bid the community adieu by thanking Voodoo Girl’s customers for “the continued support all these years.”

Kimberly Lujan and her brother, Timothy McMahon, launched the pizza and beer joint at 1401 Second NW in 2021. It’s unclear if Lujan and McMahon were still the owners when the business closed.

Live performances were a focal point of the joint, which often hosted local bands, as well as karaoke events.

Despite the lively event calendar, like many restaurants, staffing was a challenge from the beginning, the owners told the Journal in 2021, and it remained a challenge as the business closed four years later.
