Winter is not over yet.

This weekend’s forecast calls for strong winds and chances for rain and snow showers through Tuesday, according to Troy Marshall a meteorologist technician with the National Weather Service, Albuquerque.

Thursday’s forecast is mostly sunny in the morning, with clouds rolling over and a slight chance of rain in the afternoon into the evening. There’s a small chance of snow showers after midnight.

“Little or no snow accumulation is expected in Albuquerque,” Marshall said.

Marshall said the wind is expected to pick up, with gusts as high as 60 mph on Friday.

As the weekend continues, the chance of precipitation increases to 80% on Friday night, and Saturday evening brings a chance of rain showers and thunderstorms, Marshall said.

Though not much snow is expected in Albuquerque, higher elevations will see snowfall. Santa Fe is expected to get about half an inch of snow from this storm system.

Marshall said the Sandia Mountains could see as much as 7 inches in elevations above 7,500 feet. He added the East Mountains could see up to 4 inches, the Sangre de Cristo range could get up to 12 inches, and Mount Taylor could get as much as 18 inches in some areas.

Marshall said the weather is expected to dry out by the end of next week.
