Welcome to the weekly good news roundup, bringing you some of the great “good news” from around New Mexico.
Zuni Youth Enrichment Project completes camp: In its 16th consecutive year, the Zuni Youth Enrichment Project brought together 120 children, ranging from ages 6-12, to join its summer camp. Centered around learning, wellness, fun and building cultural connections, the camp ran from July 8 to July 26 and included visits to Explora in Albuquerque, El Morro National Monument, Zuni Senior Center, Zuni Food Distribution and several local parks.
The summer camp concluded with a final celebration at Shiwi Ts’ana Elementary School in Zuni where campers performed traditional social dances and displayed artwork they had made for their family and friends. Founded in 2009, the Zuni Youth Enrichment Project is dedicated to promoting resilience among Zuni youth by providing children with positive role models, enriching programs and nurturing spaces.
National Voter Registration Day: The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office is celebrating National Voter Registration Day by hosting its annual registration event on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square, 415 Silver SW. The event is focused on helping people register to vote, update their existing voter registrations and receive information on how to become a poll worker during the 2024 election. There also will be food trucks, giveaways and vendors from various local organizations and county departments. The first 50 people who register will also receive a complimentary cup of Menchie’s frozen yogurt.

PNM’s Annual Day of Service: On Thursday, more than 430 PNM employees from across the state will participate in the company’s Annual Day of Service. These employees will be supporting and volunteering at 32 nonprofits that engage in a variety of missions that support that greater community.
“PNM is excited to enable our employees to follow their passions and help out in the communities we serve,” Don Tarry, PNM president and CEO, said in a press release. “Whether it’s education, preserving and enhancing our environment, PNM employees will be out in force to make a difference.”
In addition to their day of service, PNM and its foundation, the PNM Resources Foundation, will be contributing more than $4 million to nonprofit community organizations around the state in order to help them sustain their work.
