Mayor Tim Keller and a group of children lit the city of Albuquerque’s official Christmas tree at Civic Plaza on Tuesday night, ushering in the holiday season.

Twelve city employees spent two days building the tree that stands 36 feet tall and is adorned with 250 bulbs.

Along with the lighting ceremony, attendees enjoyed bizcochitos and hot chocolate and shopped at a pop-up holiday market.

Santa Claus, sporting cowboy boots, made a special early appearance, taking pictures with families and visiting kids.
