Spring cleaning: City hosts annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Published Modified

Higher temperatures and gusty winds can only mean one thing in Albuquerque: spring is here.

That also means many neatniks have begun their annual tradition of tidying up the household, collecting everything that needs the heave-ho.

The city of Albuquerque assisted in that endeavor on Saturday through its Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Balloon Fiesta Park.

People were able to drive their vehicles into the east parking lot and have waste such as paint, cleaners and pesticides taken from their vehicles and safely disposed of, free of charge.

Aside from the event, residents of the city and Bernalillo County can always take residential hazardous waste to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at no charge. The service is operated by Safety-Kleen, 2720 Girard NE, and runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 311 for more information.

CORRECTION: The location of Safety-Kleen has been corrected in this post.
