Wrapped in comfort: Car dealership donates blankets to Presbyterian patients
In partnership with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Albuquerque dealership Fiesta Subaru recently made a surprise visit to Presbyterian Hospital to drop off a donation of 80 blankets, patient care kits and handwritten messages of hope.
The donations were made as a part of the Subaru Love To Care initiative, a national program dedicated to supporting patients of blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma through their treatments and recovery.
“We know how physically and emotionally difficult cancer treatment can be,” Derek Kulach, owner and operator of Fiesta Subaru said in a news release. “Providing warmth, love and support to those who need it most is one of the many ways Fiesta Subaru gives back.”
Inside the patient care packages was a coloring book, colored pencils, a stress ball and face mask, all included to help patients relax and take their minds off being in the hospital.
“It’s donations like this that help make a patient’s stay (at Presbyterian) more comfortable during a difficult time,” said Salika Bosler, manager of the Child Life Program at Presbyterian. In addition to the donations, Fiesta Subaru also donated $7,500 to the LLS Urgent Need Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Fund.
The fund supports young blood-cancer patients and their families and provides financial assistance for nonmedical expenses, like groceries, transportation and household utilities.
