As Halloween creeps closer, things that go bump in the night are starting to make themselves known. From a pumpkin hill to costumed canines, there are several events this week to get you into the spirited season. Or check out one of these scary good options.

The Victorian era

The Historic Fairview Cemetery is hosting the 4th annual Victorian Picnic and Scavenger Hunt from 10 a.m. to dusk on Sunday, Oct. 26. Bring a picnic, blanket or table and chairs to enjoy. The scavenger hunt will teach about some of the cemetery’s permanent residents. The $10 fee includes a T-shirt you can paint. The cemetery is located at 700 Yale Blvd. SE.

A seasonal stroll

The Albuquerque Garden Center gets transformed for Glow & Stroll from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Eventgoers can stroll through gardens as they pay homage to 15 different spooky movies, including “Harry Potter,” “Alien,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and more. The event also features a pumpkin hill, photo ops, fortune-telling and more. Timed tickets are $8 at abqglownstroll.com. The ABQ Garden Center is located 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE.

A festival of song

The Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival of New Mexico is coming to the University of New Mexico’s Keller Hall from Friday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Oct. 26. The festival showcases performances by 100 singing and piano students, with professional recitals “American Song!” featuring soprano Amy Owens and pianist Robert Tweten on Friday night, and “Art Songs and Folk Songs Music from Britain, Canada and America” featuring baritone Edmund Connolly and Maxine Thevenot on piano on Saturday night. Shake, rattle and roll

The Day of the Tread returns Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26, for two-days of two-wheeled fun starting in the Sawmill District. On Saturday, cyclists can ride in the Bone Shaker Gravel Grinder, which added a 73-mile route this year in addition to the 8-, 17-, 31- and 50-mile options. Sunday features road cycling events at a variety of distances, along with the 12-mile Rail Runner Family Ride and 4K walk through Old Town. Registration fees start at $25 at dayofthetread.com.

Up in the air

The Northern Río Grande National Heritage Area is bringing the balloons to Los Luceros Historic Site with the 2025 Río Grande Sky Fiesta. The balloons start launching at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26, with evening events on Saturday including a 3:30 p.m. Trick or Treat and Car Show, and 6 p.m. balloon glow. Tickets are $12 for Saturday, and $8 for Sunday’s morning launch, kids 12 and under are free at riograndeskyfiesta.com. Los Luceros Historic Site is located at 253 County Road 41 in Alcalde.

Costumed canines

The Downtown Growers’ Market is going to the dogs this weekend with the Dogboo! costume contest. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Awards will be handed out for best dog costume and best dog and owner costume, and the winner of the musical rings competition, a twist on musical chairs but for the dogs. Robinson Park is located at 810 Copper Ave. NW.

By candlelight

Fever is bringing two Candlelight concerts to the African American Performing Arts Center at Expo New Mexico this week. A string quartet will play “Coldplay vs. Imagine Dragons” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, and “Halloween Classics” at 8:45 p.m. Tickets start at $27.50 per performance at feverup.com.
