Albuquerque Museum Foundation's ArtsThrive kicks off on March 17
Shoppers look at artwork during the 2023 ArtsThrive exhibition.
The 33rd iteration of ArtsThrive opens at the Albuquerque Museum next week.
The juried sale opens to the public on Sunday, March 17, and lasts through April 14 during regular museum hours. Visitors will see oils, watercolors, encaustic, sculpture, jewelry and more - 350 works of art by 137 artists, including 38 who have never shown in the exhibition. Prices range from $200 to $7,500.
"We wanted to make sure there is something for everyone," said Andrew Rodgers, Albuquerque Museum Foundation president and CEO.
Collectors can get an early look at the artwork from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for $135 on Thursday, March 14. This preview will feature works by Diana Stetson, Lilly Fenichel, Catalina Delgado Trunk and Jim McLain. Four "Quick Draw" artists will create works of art in just two hours during the party: John C. Barney, Sarah Drummond, Peggy Immel and Aaron Richardson.
The festivities will include cocktails, heavy appetizers and music with flamenco guitarist Ronaldo Baca.
A Saturday Gala will occur on Saturday, March 16, for $85 with a chance to drop an intent-to-purchase form, with the winners drawn that night. Guests can meet the artists, drink a cocktail or browse the cash bar, nibble appetizers and dance to a DJ from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The artists receive 60% of the sale. Forty percent goes to the foundation to support the museum. Prior entrance is no guarantee of current acceptance.
"It's meant to be accessible," Rodgers said. "Every year, people apply. Sometimes the artists will change their style and it's not attractive to the jury."
Styles will range from avant-garde to traditional landscapes.
