All in the details: Polyphia brings its 'Remember That You Will Die' tour to Revel ABQ
Progressive rock band Polyphia is slated to perform at Revel ABQ on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Scott LePage knows caffeine has many effects on him.
Yet, he still consumes it.
“I hit about 27 or 28, and I started to feel like I needed it,” he says. “It’s a weird thing. I thought I would perform better with coffee. Little did I realize how difficult it is to find good coffee when I’m on tour.”
LePage is one member of the progressive rock band Polyphia. He is joined on stage by Tim Henson, Clay Gober and Clay Aeschliman.
The band formed in Plano, Texas, in 2010 and has released four albums – its latest being 2022’s “Remember That You Will Die.”
The band’s tour is slated to make a stop on Sunday, Oct. 1, at Revel ABQ.
Over the course of its nearly 15-year career, LePage says the band’s sound has evolved from a metal-focused tone to a more progressive rock sound lately.
The band has also incorporated electronic and hip-hop to the mix.
Polyphia’s stop in Albuquerque will be the second show of the tour.
“This tour has been a fun one to put together,” he says. “I think it came together nicely. I should be saying that about all of our music and tours. But when we made this album, we took a step back to fully envision what we were aiming for.”
In that step back, Polyphia thought about the album’s sequencing.
“We put a lot of thought into the track listing because each song gives way to the next,” he says. “I’m a nerd like that too. I like to hear the story the entire album is telling through its sequence.”
On tour, LePage says the band plays eight songs from the new album.
“We wanted to have this tour focus on the new album,” he says. “We tried to stick to as many new ones as possible, but we also know that our longtime fans want to hear the old stuff. The songs are there, and we’re looking forward to seeing that energy.”
There’s also a surprise that LePage and the band has for this tour.
“Basically, people will have to come see the show,” he says with a laugh. “I can’t give it all away. There has to be some mystery.”
With this album, LePage has had some time to reflect on the band’s journey.
As he’s grown into adulthood, he’s learned to not take anything for granted.
“I remember when we first started playing shows around Plano and Dallas,” he says. “Every time, I was nervous and anxious. There was a huge learning curve as we were trying to prove ourselves and find an identity. Truth is, every time you go on stage, it’s a learning experience. Our crew pulls off some miracles to allow us to have amazing shows now. It’s about the teamwork that lends itself to us having a bigger luxury on stage.”
