A film production is getting rolling in New Mexico.

On Wednesday, the New Mexico Film Office announced that the A24 production “Opus” is filming in and around Albuquerque and in Pojoaque through December.

This is the first production the film office has announced since the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The film is directed by Mark Anthony Green. It stars Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, Tatanka Means, Juliette Lewis and Melissa Chambers.

The film tells the story of Ariel Ecton, played by Edebiri, who is an ambitious journalist who is chasing a story and lands herself in a dangerous situation.

Malkovich plays Alfred Moretti, who is a music maestro who vanishes after several years of popularity.

He sets a return to the music world after years of being reclusive with a new album. Ecton is invited to be the first to hear the music. Upon arriving, she is swept into a cult-like situation.

Collin Creighton and Brad Weston will produce for Makeready, Poppy Hanks, and Jelani Johnson will produce for MACRO Film Studios with Charles D. King as executive producer. Josh Bachove will produce, and Sara Newkirk Simon will executive produce.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production is set to employ over 700 New Mexicans.

Edebiri is known for her role on the culinary drama, “The Bear.”

Malkovich’s most recent series is Netflix’s “Space Force.”

Means, Midthunder and Chambers are all New Mexico-based actors in the roles.

Means recently appeared as John Wren in “Killers of the Flower Moon.

Meanwhile, Midthunder gained attention for her role as Naru in the feature film, “Prey.”

Chambers will be seen in the upcoming “Obliterated,” which begins to stream on Netflix on Nov. 30.
