Bestselling author Lydia Sherrer to discuss newest book at Books on the Bosque on Nov. 12

AT BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

USA Today bestselling author Lydia Sherrer will read from and chat about “Through the Storm,” the newest volume in a sci-fi/gamelit series, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12. Sherrer cowrites the series with author John Ringo. “Through the Storm” is the second book of the TransDimensional Hunter series. It follows gaming prodigy Lynn Raven in the near future where most people interact virtually. Raven has gained fame playing a new cutting-edge, augmented reality game that puts her and her teammates outside “in the real” to battle augmented reality monsters alongside rival teams, high school bullies and an erratic algorithm.

According to Sherrer’s website, at least two more novels are planned for the series after “Through the Storm.” Book one, titled “Into the Real,” was released last year.

Sherrer publishes books traditionally and independently. The owner of Chenoweth Press she has been a pioneer of the direct author-to-reader sales model, selling copies of her titles at her online store, and fulfilling paperback orders directly from the basement in her home in Louisville, Kentucky.

AUTHOR APPEARS AT THREE VENUES

Shannon C.F. Rogers will discuss her debut young adult novel “I’d Rather Burn Than Bloom” at two bookstores in Albuquerque and at another in Taos. … The first will be at Books on the Bosque, 6261 Riverside Plaza Lane NW at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13. Rogers will share the evening’s event with Hailey Alcaraz, who wrote the Young Adult novel “Up in Flames.” … The second event will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, when Rogers will be in conversation with Albuquerque resident Amanda Machon about Rogers’ novel at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. … The third event is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at SOMOS Salon and Books, 108 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos. Rogers will share an evening of discussions and readings with poet Kathryne Lim.

Rogers’ novel “I’d Rather Burn Than Bloom” is about Marisol, a Filipina American teen who is trying to figure out who she really is in the wake of her mother’s sudden death. The author-playwright has also appeared on stage with Albuquerque’s Tricklock Company and the University of New Mexico’s Words Afire Festival of New Plays.

Rogers received a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing from UNM and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Young People from Antioch University Los Angeles. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

AT BOOKWORKS

Tracee Stanley celebrates the release of her new book “The Luminous Self: Sacred Yoga Practices and Rituals to Remember Who You Are” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16. Since 2004 the focus of Stanley’s teaching has been yoga nidra, meditation, self-empowerment, intention and self-inquiry. … Alma García reads and discusses her debut novel “All That Rises” at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. The novel is about secrets, lies, border politics and discovering where you belong. García’s award-winning short fiction has appeared in Narrative Magazine and the anthology “Puro Chicanx Writers of the 21st Century.” She is originally from El Paso, and has resided in Albuquerque. García now lives in Seattle, where she teaches fiction writing.

AT SOMOS IN TAOS

Chris Rugeley and Karen Thibodeau will read and talk about their writing at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. Rugeley, who lives in Angel Fire, will discuss his debut novel “Take Creek, For Example.” It’s been described as “the quirkiest, most art-infused campus novel you’ll ever read … .” Thibodeau is a dancer, teacher and memoirist.
