Celtic sounds

Music trio Kalos is putting on a duo of free performances in New Mexico this weekend. First up is a free performance at the Lomas Tramway Library, 908 Eastridge St. NE, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15. At noon on Thursday, Jan. 16, the group will play for free at Los Griegos Library, 1000 Griegos Road NW. Read about Kalos' tour coming to New Mexico on V13.

Uplifting notes

New Mexico Performing Arts Society is bringing you the Artist Chamber Series I: Music for Vocal Quartet and Piano at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. The concert features a program of delightful, uplifting and expressive music. Tickets are $10-$55, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church is located at 8700 Alameda Blvd. NE.

Take home your new best friend

You can “Bark in the Meow Year” from Friday, Jan. 10, through Sunday, Jan. 12, at all city shelters. The event will waive adoption fees for all pets. For more information and to see available pets visit, cabq.gov/pets/adoptions.

Join the Family Nature Club for “Carving out History,” an all ages hike and educational program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. Participants can learn natural history facts, enjoy storytelling and seek out wildlife. Rinconada Canyon Trailhead is located at 7601 St Josephs Ave. NW. The program is free, but registration is required at play.cabq.gov and search “23301111-21.”

Pick up a good book

Friends of the Public Library is hosting a $6-per-bag sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. For $6 you can fill a grocery-sized tote with books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl. Bring your own or bags will be provided. Entry is $2 before noon, free after. The event is at the Downtown Library, Lower Level, 501 Copper Ave. NW. The Albuquerque Square Dance Club is hosting a free open house from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or newcomer, you can learn basic dance call and mingle with fellow dancers. The Albuquerque Square Dance Center is located at 4915 Hawkins St. NE.
