A killer time

“Killer Lloronas and Other Misconstrued Stories,” five vignette plays recounting the humorous, dramatic and traumatizing memories of a young immigrant girl, is coming to Fusion. The stories are performed by The Killer Lloronas 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Tickets are pay what you wish at fusionnm.org. Map quest

Mission Street Arts artist-in-residence Liza MacKinnon will be at the Jemez Springs Public Library at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 for a free collage workshop. During the “Mapping the Heart” event, MacKinnon will teach embroidery on paper and offer tips on collage. The library is located at 30 Jemez Springs Plaza in Jemez Springs.

In memory

The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is hosting the Obon Festival at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15. Obon is the Japanese festival of the dead and the event will feature Taiko drumming, ikebana displays and more. Attendees will be able to light a toro nagashi lantern for their loved ones and set it afloat on the pond. Tickets are $18-$25 at artsandculture.cabq.gov/obon25; with children 2 and under free. The botanic garden is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW.

Under the sea

Learn more about our oceans at the ABQ BioPark Aquarium during Coral Reef Discovery Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16. The event will feature coral-themed crafts in the Deep Dive Learning Center, discovery stations and more. Admission is $1-$19.50 at artsandculture.cabq.gov, with children 2 and under free. Dancing Earth Creations is bringing “Unbound: A Performance Ritual” to the South Broadway Cultural Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Like ‘Wildfire’

Michael Martin Murphey is coming to the KiMo Theatre to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his hit song “Wildfire.” The concert will also feature selections “Blue Sky Night Thunder” and other albums. Tickets are $45-$65 at artsandculture.cabq.gov. The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Ave. NW.

Lara Ruggles is coming to New Mexico for two free shows in celebration of her new album, “Anchor Me.” You can hear Ruggles at the Juan Tabo Library, 3407 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, then she will perform at the Ernie Pyle Library, 900 Girard Blvd. SE, at noon on Thursday, Aug. 21.
