“Oppenheimer” is in its Golden (Globe) era.

The New Mexico-filmed production took home five Golden Globes on Sunday night.

It was nominated for eight going into Sunday’s award show, just behind “Barbie,” which had nine nominations.

“Oppenheimer” picked up the Golden Globe for motion picture drama.

With the Golden Globes, “Oppenheimer” became one of the frontrunners for the Academy Awards with its wins on Sunday.

Director Christopher Nolan picked up best director, meanwhile Cillian Murphy won for best drama actor.

“The only time I’ve ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these for Heath Ledger,” Nolan said of his late “Dark Knight” star. “I thought it would be simpler accepting this for myself.”

Nolan thanked his cast Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. and ended with Universal’s Donna Langley and his wife, Emma Thomas.

Robert Downey Jr.’s win for best supporting actor at the beginning of the broadcast kicked off the winning streak.

“Golden Globes journalists, thank you for changing your game, therefore changing your name,” Downey said in his acceptance speech.

Ludwig Göransson picked up the Golden Globe for the “Oppenheimer” score.

Murphy, who has worked with Nolan on other projects, took a playful jab at the director in his speech.

“I knew the first time I walked on a Nolan set that it was different,” Murphy said. “I could tell by the level of rigor, the level of focus, the level of dedication and the complete lack of any seating options for actors that I was in the hands of the visionary director and master.”

“Oppenheimer” is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin.

It follows Oppenheimer’s journey working with the team behind the Manhattan Project as they developed what would become the atomic bomb.

Production on the film began in early 2022 in Los Alamos, Abiquiú, Santa Fe, Belen and Albuquerque.

The film didn’t have a home base as the entire movie was filmed on location and tons of work had to be done in advance for the film.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production employed about 190 New Mexico crew members and 1,200 New Mexico background and extras.

“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” two blockbusters brought together by a common release date in July, reignited the box office for nearly a month.

Though the Globes have no direct correlation with the Academy Awards, they can boost campaigns at a crucial juncture. Oscar nomination voting starts Thursday, and the twin sensations of Barbenheimer remain frontrunners.

Native actor Lily Gladstone picked up an historic award for her role in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

“Beef,” “The Bear” and “Succession” were also multiple winners.

The Academy Awards will take place on March 10.
