CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Calen Demers of Los Lunas caught a 24-inch catfish at Conchas Lake using worms on June 23.

Sofia Mondragon, 12, and Eve Mondragon, 10, of Ojo Caliente caught their limits of rainbow trout using salmon eggs and PowerBait at Eagle Rock Lake on June 29.

On the Red River, Salinea Jernigan of Rio Rancho caught a 22-inch rainbow trout using Yellow PowerBait at the city pond in the town of Red River on June 24. … Michael Bowles caught a 21-inch rainbow trout using Pink PowerBait on June 29.

Seth Hardy of Red River caught a 21-inch pike on the Rio Grande using a white streamer fly on June 29.

At Cochiti Lake, Wayne Garcia of Albuquerque caught and released three pike measuring 33, 35 and 38 inches using a rainbow-trout-pattern swimbait on June 25. … Milo Chavez of Los Ranchos caught a 41-inch pike using a curly-tail jig on June 24. … Tim Zimmerly of White Rock caught two 33-inch pike using a spoon on June 23.

Emberly Valles, 4, of Silver City caught her first pike at Navajo Lake using a chartreuse swimbait on June 16.

Zayden Baca, 10, caught and released a 3-pound largemouth bass at Tingley Beach using a frog-pattern lure on June 25.

Luke Moriarty, 13, of Albuquerque caught a 22-inch, 3-pound walleye and several others at Elephant Butte Lake using chartreuse grubs and silver spinners on June 22.

At Quemado Lake, Jeanette Hamilton-Muise of Silver City caught and released a 19-inch rainbow trout using a crankbait lure on June 28. … Austyn Riley, 12, of Laguna Pueblo caught his limit of rainbow trout using a variety of PowerBait and Pistol Pete’s spinner flies on June 27. … Christian Lee Apachito and Damascio Jake Baca, both of Alamo, caught 18- and 26-inch trout using chartreuse Rooster Tail spinners on June 22.

Cera Talamantes of Las Cruces, along with her husband, caught multiple trout at Snow Lake using corn and Garlic PowerBait on June 22.

Tommy Erven of Los Lunas caught a 14-inch catfish at Santa Rosa Lake using worms on June 22.

Streamflow on the Cimarron River near Cimarron on Monday morning was 41 cubic feet per second (cfs). Fishing for trout was fair to good using bead-head nymph flies.

Fishing for trout at Clayton Lake was fair to good using PowerBait and worms. Fishing for bass was fair to good using plastic worms.

Fishing for bass at Conchas Lake was fair to good using Senko worms. Fishing for catfish was good using worms.

Costilla Creek had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Cowles Ponds was good using dry flies in the evenings.

Coyote Creek had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Eagle Nest Lake was good using Yellow PowerBait, Rapala lures, red wiggler worms and Salmon Egg Glitter PowerBait. Streamflow on the Pecos River near Pecos on Monday morning was 134 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using nightcrawler worms, salmon eggs and Rapala Countdown lures.

Streamflow on the Red River below the Red River Hatchery on Monday morning was 80 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using Pink PowerBait, worms, flies and salmon eggs near the town of Red River.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande below the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday morning was 561 cfs. Fishing for trout was slow to fair using homemade, white Streamer flies. Fishing for pike was slow to fair using Streamer flies. Anglers reported murky water conditions.

Streamflow on the Rio Hondo near Valdez on Monday morning was 47 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Mora near Terrero on Monday morning was 33 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Pueblo near Peñasco on Monday morning was 53 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using Prince Nymph flies.

Fishing for trout at Santa Cruz Reservoir was fair to good using garlic PowerBait.

Shuree Ponds is closed until July 1.

Fishing for pike at Springer Lake was fair to good using spoons.

Fishing for trout at Storrie Lake was good using worms and Garlic PowerBait.

Fishing for all species was slow at Stubblefield Lake.

Fishing for walleye at Ute Lake was slow using nightcrawler harness rigs and bottom bouncers. Fishing for white bass was good inline spinners, topwater lures and swimbaits. Fishing for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass was fair using tubes, Berkley Generals, Gulp minnows, Pop R’s and Whopper Plopper lures. Fishing for crappie was slow. Fishing for catfish was fair using chicken liver and nightcrawler worms. Fishing for bluegill was good using worms and small jigs. The main lake’s water surface temperature was in the high 70s and the water was clear.

Fishing for white bass at Cochiti Lake was good using white swimbaits. Fishing for pike was good using spoons, curly-tail jigs, rainbow-trout-pattern swimbaits and Rapala lures.

Fishing for trout and sucker fish at Heron Lake was slow using JBT Boilie Baits and Joel-O-Shotz.

At the Jemez Waters, streamflow near Village of Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 72 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using multi-colored PowerBait and dry flies. Fishing the East Fork was very good using spinners, Copper John flies, Pheasant-Tail Nymph flies, Prince Nymph flies and Caddis Stimulator dry flies.

Fishing for trout at Laguna del Campo was fair using blue-and-pink Mepps spinners, various PowerBait and salmon eggs.

Fishing for trout at Lagunitas Lakes was fair to good using flies, salmon eggs and PowerBait.

Lake Farmington had no reports from anglers this week.

McGaffey Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for kokanee salmon at Navajo Lake was fair to good using spinners tipped with corn. Fishing for pike was fair to good using chartreuse swimbaits and cut bait. Fishing for bass was good using jerk baits and wacky-rigged, soft-plastic worms.

Streamflow on the Rio Chama below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 479 cfs; streamflow below Abiquiú Lake on Tuesday morning was 104 cfs. Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiquiú upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiquiú Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

Fishing for catfish on the Rio Grande was good using shrimp.

Riverside Park Pond (Aztec Pond #1) had no reports from anglers this week.

San Gregorio Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

Streamflow on the San Juan River near Archuleta on Tuesday morning was 320 cfs. Fishing for trout in the quality waters was fair to good using green Wooly Bugger flies and green Scud Flies.

Fishing for trout at Seven Springs Kids’ Pond was fair to good using olive Woolly Bugger flies, rainbow-colored PowerBait and worms. Rio Grande chub are a native fish in the Jemez River drainage and can be found in the Seven Springs Kids’ Ponds. Anglers often mistake these native fish for an invasive species and leave them on the banks to die. If you catch a Rio Grande chub, please do not leave it on the bank; return it to the water where it can survive as part of our native ecosystem.

Fishing for walleye was good using chartreuse grubs and silver spinners. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using live minnows, cut shad bait and cut carp bait.

Fishing for catfish at Escondida Lake was good using chicken liver.

Fishing for bass at Estancia Park Lake was fair to good using Whopper Plopper lures and soft-plastic pink worms.
