Monica Velasco, Mario Velasco, Mario Velasco Jr. and Kim Ochoa from Chapparal combined to catch 11 trout using a variety of PowerBait at Oasis Park Lake on Jan. 3.
CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Daniel Carballo of Rio Chama caught five trout, including the brook trout pictured, using worms and salmon eggs at Hopewell Lake on Jan. 11.
David Flores caught two trout on the Pecos River using a streamer fly on Jan. 6.
Uriah “Rage” Lucero, 6, of Isleta Pueblo caught his first brown trout on the San Juan River using a Pink PowerBait Worm on a single hook near Archuleta on Jan. 6.
At Bill Evans Lake, Sarah Jaurequi caught five rainbow trout using Salmon Peach PowerBait and a red-and-gold lure on Jan. 6. … Owen Middagh also caught five rainbow trout using Rooster Tail spinners and small crawdad lures on Jan. 3.

Streamflow on the Red River below the Red River Hatchery on Monday morning was 35.1 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using black streamer flies and San Juan worms pattern flies.
Work to replace the water line to the hatchery pond at Red River Hatchery has been completed and stocking has resumed. There were no reports from anglers this week.
Streamflow on the Rio Grande below the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday morning was 563 cfs. Fishing for trout was slow to fair using olive leech-pattern flies, olive streamers, red-and-black Joe’s Flies and black streamer flies.

Streamflow on the Rio Chama below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 103 cfs; streamflow below Abiquiú Lake on Tuesday morning was 502 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using Woolly Bugger flies below Abiquiú Lake. Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiquiú upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiquiú Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

If you catch a native Rio Grande chub in the Kid’s Pond, please do not leave it on the bank; return it to the water where it can survive as part of our native ecosystem.
