The French connection
Indie folk Français duo Bébé La La are celebrating their 15-year anniversary with a concert at the Outpost Performance Space at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. Joining Alicia Ultan and Maryse Lapierre are band members Micky Patten on bass and guitar and Joe Chellman on drums, and a host of guest musicians. Tickets are $22-$33 at ampconcerts.org. The birds are back in town
The annual Crane Festival is landing at the Open Space Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. Learn about the sandhill cranes and geese that call New Mexico their winter home, borrow binoculars from the center's front desk to get an up close view, do tai-chi with the cranes at 10 a.m. and more. The Open Space Visitor Center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW.
Kicking it off
New Mexico Tech’s Performing Arts Series is bringing Breabach to the Macey Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. Breabach, the Gaelic word “to kick,” will be performing its blend of contemporary and traditional Scottish music, featuring bagpipes, fiddle, Scottish step dance and more. Tickets are $10-$22 at nmt.edu/pas. The Macey Center is located at 801 Leroy Place in Socorro. Breabach is also playing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the South Broadway Cultural Center, 1025 Broadway Blvd. SE. Tickets are $28-$33 at artsandculture.cabq.gov.
Lifting up their voices
The Young Voices of the Santa Fe Opera will be performing the inaugural “Autumn Serenade” at 4 p.m Saturday, Nov. 15. The performance will feature a repertoire of music sung in English, French, German and Italian. A reception with light snacks will follow the concert. The event is free with a reservation at santafeopera.org. First Presbyterian Church is located at 215 Locust St. NE.
Fall skies
The Placitas Community Library is hosting a Star Party from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. The event starts with solar viewing at 5 p.m., and at 7 p.m. The Albuquerque Astronomical Society’s Star Master will speak about the stars and planets on view. The event is free, and eventgoers are advised to dress warmly and to use red flashlights or headlamps in the observation area. The Placitas Community Library is located at 453 Highway 165 in Placitas.
Fractals all around
Dive into the “Fascinating world of Fractals” at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. Jonathan Wolfe, founder and executive director of the Fractal Foundation in New Mexico, will discuss fractals —the intersection of art and science. Tickets for the 21+ event are $12 at nuclearmuseum.org. The museum is located at 601 Eubank Blvd. SE.
Destination everywhere
Go around the world with the University of New Mexico Music Department with “Opera Scenes: Postcards from Around the World” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. The program features songs from “The Sound of Music,” “Fiddler on the Roof," “Kiss Me Kate” and more. Tickets are $11.50-$16.50 at unmtickets.com. Keller Hall is located on the UNM campus.
