AT GARCIA STREET BOOKS

The Santa Fe bookstore will host authors Elizabeth Tucker and Pam Houston at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23. Each will read from their recent books — Tucker from her novel “The Pale Flesh of Wood” and Houston from her nonfiction work “Without Exception: Reclaiming Abortion, Personhood and Freedom.”

Following the readings, the two women will be in conversation.

In a published blurb for Tucker’s book, Houston wrote, “three generations of Hawkins-folk, charismatic, troubled, tenacious, straight-backed … They got under my skin in the best possible way and remain there.”

Houston is perhaps best known for her first book, “Cowboys Are My Weakness,” which won the 1993 Western States Book Award and was translated into nine languages.

Garcia Street Books is located at 376 Garcia St. in Santa Fe. If planning to attend the event, RSVP at garciastreetbooks.com.

AT COLLECTED WORKS

Lucy R. Lippard, known for her pioneering work as an art critic and activist, will discuss her new book “Headwaters (and Other Short Fiction)” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Collected Works.

The book is a collection of her narrative and experimental writing that reveals “the depth of her visionary influence on art, activist and culture.” The book is an anthology of more than 50 short works, many of them previously unpublished.

Lippard, a resident of Galisteo, will also discuss “Moving Targets: Feminist Essays on Women’s Art 1970-1993.”

At 6 p.m. Thursday, March 27, Cyril Christo and Marie Wilkinson will chat about their recent book “Wonder and the World: A Childhood Among the Species.” The book explores the connection between humanity and the wild.

Christo and Wilkinson, who live in Santa Fe, are also filmmakers.

Collected Works is at 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe.

AT TREASURE HOUSE BOOKS & GIFTS

Treasure House Books & Gifts will host two author events this week.

From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, J.L. Greger will sign her latest “Science Traveler” mystery, “Crazy Like a Goat.”

From 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, Cindy Sloan Butts will sign book one of her “Madera Mysteries” series, “Bracelets and Bravery.”

Treasure House is located at 2012 South Plaza St. NW, Old Town.

RECENT RELEASE

Longtime Albuquerque resident Louis L. Downs is the author of “The Ends of the Tunnel.” Downs has described it as “a popular psychology novel but is autobiographical in origin. Its appeal is to people who enjoy horror novels, such as the writings of Stephen King. The book will also appeal to trauma survivors who are looking for an experientially based self-help book, and the book even provides insights about healing and psychotherapy for professionals in the field of counseling.”
