It takes months of logistics planning for the city of Albuquerque to put together Route 66 Summerfest.

For the event on Saturday, July 22, the city will close Central Avenue between Girard Boulevard and Washington Street in Nob Hill.

The closure begins at midnight Friday, July 21, until midnight Saturday, July 22.

According to city officials, there will be kids’ events, which include face painting, inflatable obstacles courses and two 25-foot climbing walls.

There will be food trucks and local artisans along the street. Nob Hill businesses will also be open.

With thousands of visitors heading into Nob Hill, traffic will be heavier than usual.

Parking will be available in paid parking lots and street parking in the surrounding area.

There will also be park and ride service for the event provided by the city. Parking for the service will be in the lot on the southwest corner of Lomas and University NE. Free buses will run from the lot to UNM’s Johnson Field next to Girard throughout the event. Last bus will be at 10:30 p.m.

A bike valet will also be offered at the event. City officials say biking is one way to skip the traffic on the road and ride on the trail.

The event is free to the public and pets on leashes are welcome.

Officials say to keep an eye on summer temperatures and stay hydrated in the desert heat as Summerfest is a rain or shine event.
