How do you like them apples? Los Luceros Harvest Festival features fruit picking, activities, live music
There’s apple picking at Los Luceros Historic Site in their largest event of the year, Harvest Festival.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, the orchard will be open for visitors to pick apples to take home. This family-friendly event celebrates the harvest season, as well as northern New Mexico’s rich culture and heritage.

The annual event also features freshly-pressed cider by Pajarito Environmental Education Center, a performance by youth folklorico dancers from Moving Arts-Española, music by Johnny Sanchez, wildlife demonstrations by New Mexico Wildlife Center and a Vitalant Blood Mobile blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other programming includes children’s art activities, Navajo-Churro sheep wool dyeing, artist demonstrations and sales, craft vendors and food trucks. The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ Wonders on Wheels mobile museum bus will be at the event touring the farm exhibit “Growing New Mexico.”
Los Luceros Historic Site buildings will also be open for people to visit and meet the Navajo-Churro sheep, donkeys and goats living on the farm.
Admission to Los Luceros Harvest Festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 16 and younger. Tickets are available for purchase online at museumfoundation.org/events.
Free admission is available to tribal affiliation/members, disabled veterans, Museum of New Mexico Foundation members, and DCA staff and family is offered at the visitor center.
Los Luceros Historic Site is located on a 148-acre ranch north of Alcalde, on the east bank of the Rio Grande. The centerpiece of the site is a territorial-style hacienda housing centuries of history within its walls. The property also includes an 18th century capilla (chapel), Victorian cottage, carriage house, guesthouse and farmyard.
