Learn more about ToonFusion, which is making its ABQ debut
Albuquerque is getting animated this weekend.
“ToonFusion is an animation-based pop culture convention. We have everything from video games to anime cartoons,” Alecta Carter, administrative assistant at 3XC Events, said. “We’ve got people from the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ series. It’s pretty diverse in terms of all things animation.”
The convention will be in Albuquerque for the first time Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13, according to Carter, who hopes to have an impact on the con community and “give an extra boost to the ‘nerds’” in New Mexico.
“I think there’s going to be a lot of really cool, interesting people coming out, lots of cool costumes,” Carter said. “I’ve heard great things about the cosplay community out here in New Mexico.”
The convention will feature over 20 voice actors in attendance, including those from “Ed, Edd and Eddy,” “Hazbin Hotel” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” The wide variety of shows is the reason people should attend the convention, Carter said.
“You can come meet the voices behind some of your favorite characters and get signatures and merchandise from them,” Carter said. “And you get very unique experiences and interactions when you come to a convention.”
Aside from voice actors, there are also various panels, video games, card games and a cosplay contest.
“This year we’re doing a (cosplay) showcase, so it’s not quite as intense as most traditional cosplay contests … This one’s more you come out, show off (and) have a good time,” Carter said. “We’ve worked to build it, to have a lot more audience involvement, where the audience actually gets a say in how things will go in terms of winners.”
The contest takes place on Saturday with registration and prejudging in the early afternoon and the final contest later in the day.
“We hope to see all of Albuquerque and the surrounding area out at the show to have a good time,” Carter said.
