Looking for a hot time this weekend? Check out the Bosque Chile Fest
In New Mexico, you can find chile everywhere.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, look no further than the Bosque Chile Fest, which has been toasting — and roasting — New Mexico’s state vegetable for over 10 years.
“It’s a celebration of all things chile. Chile is such an important thing to New Mexico and to our culture here,” Austin Munn, Bernalillo County communications specialist, said. “It’s in everything. And so this is Bernalillo County’s little homage to chile, both red and green.”
Munn said the festival is family-friendly and people of all ages can come out and have a good time.
“It’s not even just all about the chile. I think people really just enjoy having a place that they can congregate in and celebrate in.”
The event strives to be a fully immerse visitors into the world of chile.
“One of the things we like to say is, it’s chile for all five senses: look, touch, taste, feel and smell,” Munn said.
Vendors will sell everything from chile art to chile earrings, and there will be many chile-themed activities.
“We’re gonna have some arts and crafts for the kids and for the whole family,” Munn said. “And there’ll be live music, cooking demonstrations, chile roasting demonstrations, all sorts of stuff like that.”
Planned festival demonstrations include “How to Make a Chile Ristra” and “Sabor Salsa,” where eventgoers can learn to make appetizers and dip.
“If you’re into chile, this is the event for you,” Munn said.
There are also all types of chile-focused foods at the festival.
“There’s a new food vendor and they’re coming in with a red chile creme brulee,” Munn said. “I know that’s one of the things that I’m kind of excited for.”
Munn said you can expect to learn something new about chile.
“It really is just a way to come and find out so many different things that you can do with chile,” Munn said.
