AT BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

Mary Robinette Kowal will sign copies of her new book “The Martian Contingency” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the bookstore.

The book is the latest entry in her “Lady Astronaut” series. Past volumes in the series have won Hugo and Nebula awards.

Years after a meteor obliterates Washington, D.C. — triggering an extinction-level global warming event — the Earth’s survivors have started an international effort to establish homes on space stations and the moon. Next step? Mars.

Kowal is also an art director, translator and a puppeteer, having worked with Jim Henson Productions and her own production company.

Books on the Bosque is located at 6261 Riverside Plaza Lane NW.

AT BOOKWORKS

Zahra Marwan will read from her new picture book “Sakina and the Uninvited Guests” at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the bookstore.

When a sandstorm blankets the city, Sakina and her mama forego their plans to go to the beach and instead head for a local museum. While Sakina yawns at the boring old relics, her mama’s eyes fill with tears as she’s moved by the details she recognizes.

When it’s time to leave the museum, Sakina returns home with something unexpected. Can three uninvited guess help Sakina see the museum through her mama’s eyes?

Bookworks is located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.

AT COLLECTED WORKS

The bookstore will host three events this week.

At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, Albuquerque poet Margaret Randall will read from her two new books. One is the poetry collection “Wild Card” and the other is “Letters from the Edge: Outrider Conversations.”

These are actually excerpts from letters Randall exchanged with five irreverent writers and artists.

At 6 p.m. Monday, April 28, six of the 10 poets in “The Venice Collective: A Shared Condition” will read from the anthology. Members of the literary ensemble have inspired each other for 25 years. They have shared the goal of expanding the boundaries of language, image and form. The six poets who will be at the bookstore are Sarah Maclay, Holaday Mason, Jim Natal, Dina Hardy, Mariano Zaro and Jeanette Clough.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, Elizabeth Jacobson, a former Santa Fe Poet Laureate, will read from her recent collection “There Are As Many Songs in the World As Branches of Coral.”

Collected Works is located at 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe.

AT GARCIA STREET BOOKS

Three authors will informally chat about their recent books from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Garcia Street Books, 376 Garcia St., Santa Fe.

The authors are Holly Harrison, who will talk about her new mystery “Death in the Land of Enchantment;” Victoria Rabinowe, who will talk about her book “Conversations with Psyche: A Dreamer’s Guide to Soul-Stirring Creativity;” and John Lonergan, who will discuss his book “Containment.”

Harrison lives in Albuquerque, and Rabinowe and Lonergan reside in Santa Fe.

The “Meet the Authors” event is being presented with the New Mexico Book Association.

AT SOMOS SALON

Poets Charlie Kalogeros-Chattan and Katie O’Neill will read from their work at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at SOMOS Salon, 108 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos.

AT TREASURE HOUSE BOOKS & GIFTS

Ross Van Dusen will sign copies of his children’s book, “How the Crocka Dog Came to Be” from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Treasure House Books & Gifts, 2012 South Plaza NW, Old Town, Albuquerque.
