Participants celebrate at Canteen Brewhouse after a 5K run in partnership with Heart & Soul Sports in 2023. It is part of the 6 Pack running series.

The day kicks off with a 5K run in partnership with Heart & Soul Sports. It is part of the 6 Pack running series at the brewhouse. Registration takes place at 11 a.m. and the run starts at 11:30 a.m. It is $10 to participate in the run, with proceeds benefiting Cross My Paws rescue, which will be onsite with adoptable puppies and dogs. More information can be found at crossmypaws.org.

“They’re lovely, it’s Lani Nash who started it, and she actually has a therapy degree as well,” said Jamie Schwebach, general manager at Canteen Brewhouse. “She’s a local musician, super talented singer-songwriter, and she started doing it I think it was right before COVID. And she just saw needs for all these dogs. They’ve rescued so many dogs. We’ve done quite a few fundraisers. We have a dog that’s adopted from them. It’s a great if you check them out online. They’re just a really great nonprofit that’s pretty awesome.”

Dog photos with Santa will take place from noon to 2 p.m. with proceeds also benefitting Cross My Paws. Santa photos are $15 and participants will receive a printed photo as well as a digital photo.

Other activities happening on Dec. 22 include a performance by RJ Perez from noon to 3 p.m. The live music continues during an Ugly Sweater Party with Le Chat Lunatique from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Keeping with the holiday spirit, Canteen Brewhouse will have live music from Felix y Los Gatos from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. The next day, the brewhouse will hold the Resolution Maker and Breaker 5K with registration at noon and the run at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. It is $30 to register for the fun run and the entry cost includes “lucky” New Year’s Day food, a pint, Canteen swag and a donation to Agora Crisis Center. The center offers compassionate, nonjudgmental help for anyone in need of emotional support.

“It’s a fun, silly run, and it’s a cool thing because it goes back to Agora,” Schwebach said. “It’s such a hard time of year, so we always want to make sure we’re giving back to the Agora Crisis Center. It’s a good way to remind everybody about suicide prevention during the holidays.”
