Pianist Tetian Shafran set to perform with NMPhil
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major reveals all the characteristics of the work of a wise old master, giving the impression of having seen and heard everything and having no regrets. And in a sense Mozart was old, at the age of 30.
2019 Olga Kern International Piano Competition winner Tetiana Shafran will perform this classic with the New Mexico Philharmonic at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Popejoy Hall.
Guest conductor Fabio Mechetti will lead the orchestra.
The musicians also will play the Overture to Le roi d’Ys, the opera by the French composer Édourd Lalo, as well as Hector Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Shafran started playing piano at the age of 3.
She graduated from the Lysenko Special Music School and the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
She is the prize-winner of about 25 International piano competition.
“Her Dad was in the war,” said Marian Tanua, New Mexico Philharmonic president and CEO. “They moved from Kiev to Lviv. She’s able to play recitals, but she constantly goes back.”
