AT BOOKWORKS

Rachel Eve Moulton will discuss and sign copies of her new book “Tantrum” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Bookworks.

“Tantrum” is a horror novel. Thea believes her third pregnancy was her easiest, and she thinks the baby will be just fine. But when the nurses hand Lucia to Thea, the mother quickly knows that the baby is a monster.

Not only was Lucia born with a full set of teeth and a devilish glint in her eye, but she was always hungry.

The novel explores family duty and debt and the darker side of motherhood.

Moulton is also the author of “The Insatiable Volt Sisters” and “Tinfoil Butterfly.”

The bookstore is located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.

AT BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

AT GERONIMO’S BOOKS

Steven Robinson will discuss his book “Turf War” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Geronimo’s Books in Santa Fe.

It is an insider’s look at how a group of West Side residents in New York City took on Donald Trump’s land-development project and won.

The bookstore is located at 3018 Cielo Court, Suite D, in Santa Fe.

NEW POETRY COLLECTION

Holy Cow! Press has published “Goat, Goddess, Moon,” the fourth poetry collection by Greek-American poet Catherine Strisik. The collection is described as Strisik’s personal search to uncover the roots of her given name.

Strisik divides her time between Taos and Cape Ann, Massachusetts.

NEW BOOK ON PRISON RIOT

The University of Iowa Press has recently published “High Desert Blood: The 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot and the Tragedy of the Williams Brothers” by Andrew Brininstool.

Brininstool reveals the conditions that led to the penitentiary riot, described as “a catastrophic event that left a permanent scar on the American penal landscape.”

The book is a true crime journey “through the heart of a system that failed its inmates, its staff, and the society it was meant to protect.”

The book also looks at two inmate-brothers — Gary and Jeff Williams.

Gary is a nonviolent first-time offender. Jeff Williams was a career criminal who mysteriously vanished during the riot. The book says that after his release, Gary searches for the truth of his brother’s disappearance. That search “leads him to a similar tragic fate.”

Brininstool is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in prose and a finalist for a PEN/Writing for Justice fellowship. Born in Santa Fe, he lives in Grapevine, Texas.
