Sun protection shirts with extra long sleeves and hoodies block the heat and rays on the trail.

The ones from Willit are rated UPF 50+ and work as sunscreen substitutes. For those who hate the greasy feel of lotion on our skin, the shirts are a great compromise.

I first saw these in use at a disc golf tournament in the mountains near Pagosa Springs, Co. One of the golfers covered up with it rather than sunscreen, so he didn’t soil his hands and discs.

He said he worked on construction sites in Phoenix, where these were the shirt of choice of many while pouring concrete foundations.

Be sure to get a slightly larger size than usual. Surprisingly, on a sunny day, you may feel cooler than if you were going shirtless. You can order with extra long sleeves to fully cover your arms and hands.

A hoodie, that comes on some models, provides covers to the back of your neck and provides extra cover for your head and ears under your hat.

At less than $25 dollars, the shirts come in gray, ocean blue, tangerine (for during hunting season, so you aren’t seen as prey) and more.

From the Willit brand: “Shield up, shine on.”
