Moriarty firefighters assisted in a sting operation of sorts after about 1,000 bees were reported near a KFC off Route 66 this week.

An unidentified person was stung during the incident and was listed in “stable condition,” as of Sunday, Moriarty Fire Department said in a social media post.

The incident prompted the fire department to call for help.

"There are beekeepers on scene attempting to contain the swarm," the agency said in the post.

The bees have since been relocated, according to the Moriarty Fire Department.

"We recognize that bees play a vital role in the community and environment," the post stated. "We want to ensure the public that we want to treat the bees with the utmost respect and humility while also ensuring public safety."

The Moriarty Fire Department referred the Journal to Moriarty police for additional comment on the incident. Police did not respond as of Thursday afternoon.
