Did you know Shakespeare’s shortest play is “The Comedy of Errors”? And you’re short on time if you want to catch the New Mexico Shakespeare Festival, which wraps up this weekend. Not a fan of the Bard? Here are some other options that aren’t “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

1Things that go bump in the night

The Morgue and Krypt Horror Fest is coming to the Albuquerque Convention Center for three days of spookiness. The event runs from 5-11:45 p.m. Friday, July 7, 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, July 8, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 9, in the west building. Single day tickets are $30, $60 for a weekend pass, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. The convention center is located at 401 Second St. NW.

2It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing

The New Mexico Jazz Workshop is bringing Music Under the Stars with “505 Swing Dance Night.” The concert will feature the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra and Hillary Smith. The music goes from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater, 2000 Mountain Road NW. Tickets run $22-$25, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com.

3Pick out a good book

The Friends of the Public Library is hosting its monthly book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. Shop thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and more, with a $6 bag sale. Entry is $2 for the general public and free for members. The Main Library is located at 501 Copper Ave. NW.

4Lending a hand

The Historic Fairview Cemetery is holding its monthly volunteer clean-up from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, July 8. Hard-soled shoes are recommended and eventgoers should bring their own tools. The cemetery is located at 700 Yale St. SE. Visit historicfairview cemeteryabq.org for more information.

5Habitats for all

Peggy Wells will speak on the topic “Plant Strategies for Surviving Drought and A Description of Plants in this Habitat,” in an event from the Xeric Garden Club of Albuquerque, from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 8. Wells will also provide information on how to create a wildlife habitat garden in your own backyard, creating a habitat that can provide food and shelter for bees, beneficial insects, lizards, birds and mammals. 6Rock Detroit City

The New Mexico United will take on Detroit City FC on “Soccer Salutes Service” night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park, 1601 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE. Tickets start at $18, plus fees, at newmexicoutd.com.

7Best of the Bard

The New Mexico Shakespeare Festival wraps up with final performances at 7:30 p.m. at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial Park. On Friday, July 7, catch “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” then on Saturday, July 8, the troupe will perform “The Comedy of Errors.” The events are free. N.M.
