The Dead Beatclub brings a taste of The B-52s to the Santa Fe Railyard

The Dead Beatclub, a B-52s tribute band, is bringing beehive hairdos and kitsch outfits to Nuckolls Brewery at the Santa Fe Railyard on Friday, Aug. 22.
“(The B-52s) were so out there, sound-wise and look-wise. Nobody was like them,” Billy Brooke, Dead Beatclub bassist, said. “They were just the quirkiest, kitschy band ever, with these super catchy tunes.”
The Dead Beatclub will perform on a Sky Railway open-air flatcar outside the brewery.
When the band first started they wore Halloween costumes.
“Of course, it was just so hot with all those costumes and the makeup. We really went for it,” Brooke said. “And so during the fall, we had a band meeting, and we took a vote, and I was voted down six to one that we would not do the costumes anymore, except for around Halloween.”
Last September, the band had their premiere performance at Nuckolls Brewery and can not wait to be back.
“We’re rolling down the track playing the first song,” Brooke said
Brooke said the best part is the crowd’s reaction as the train car pulls up.
“The amazing part is the train starts up and it comes down from the depot, and it’s coming towards Nuckolls, and then you realize, oh my gosh, the band is on the train,” Brooke said.
He said with “The B-52s, you just you can’t stop dancing,” which is why “Pump” is one of his favorite songs to perform.
“It’s not one of their big hits. It was not their last album, but it’s just like the most incredibly insane funky dance number you can’t stop moving,” Brooke said.
He said the atmosphere at the shows can be described in three words.
“It’s just a crazy dance party,” Brooke said.
