The Regular makes its way to Santa Fe's Tumbleroot
Indie rock band The Regular is bringing their sound to Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery in Santa Fe for the first time.
The Chicago-born, now Denver-based band has evolved their sound over the last five years, inspired by artists like Bob Dylan and The Lumineers, and they are embarking on a tour to the Southwest for the first time to develop their fan base and reach a wider audience, and New Mexico is their first stop.
“This is our first time in New Mexico, so I’m really excited,” said keyboardist Spencer Adamson. “We were originally going to play in Albuquerque, but our lead guitarist said the Santa Fe people are really into the arts and music, and that Santa Fe would be a really good fit for us. We’re trying to expand and keep ourselves on the road.”

The band draws on an “eclectic array of inspiration and approaches songwriting with sincere storytelling and often punk-driven approach, which lends itself to rowdy and energetic shows,” Adamson said.
Previously, the band focused on more indie folk tones, but the group has since shifted to an indie rock sound that they believe gives the band more energy and vibrancy during their shows. With a lead guitarist, Cormac Piper, who has moved toward developing the band’s sounds with an electric guitar, The Regular has a new focus on highly energetic shows.
The Regular themes its songs around different ideas like love and connections, creating a unique narrative with every single song they write. Adamson said that band member Oscar Aguilar is the main songwriter for the band and draws on his own personal experiences to craft The Regular’s sounds.
“We have a song called ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ which is a song about love and traveling,” Adamson said. “Our whole first record follows a bit of a storyline where boy meets girl, they have their ups and downs and it ends, so the song gets more energetic as it goes on when we play our shows.”
Other songs, like “Animal,” are set up songs that build the mood of the show and give audience members an idea of what fans can expect.
As a growing band, The Regular wants to get its name out there to continue developing its sound, while working on building funding to start its next album. The band plans to play music from its newest album it hopes to release soon.
“We have a really cool producer lined up that we want to work with, so we’re trying to get the word out,” Adamson said. “Hopefully if people like our music, they can come to our show, buy our merch and get some funds coming in.”
