I’m not a scientist, but I’m pretty sure if you walk or run in a Thanksgiving-themed race, you’re allowed a second slice of pumpkin pie later that day. You can gobble up the road this weekend at Balloon Fiesta Park. Or trot over to one of these other events this week.

Lending their voices

The University of New Mexico chapter of the American Choral Directors Association is bringing its Holiday Benefit Concert to the Immanuel Presbyterian Church at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. The performance will feature UNM soloists and ensembles, the Honeychords, Enchantment Winds and more. Admission is free and donations will go to benefit Paws and Stripes and the Carlisle Center for Community and the Arts. Immanuel Presbyterian Church is located at 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE.

Hot to trot

The Albuquerque Turkey Trot will be off and running Thursday, Nov. 27, from Balloon Fiesta Park. The first race starts at 8:15 a.m. with the Tot Trot, followed by the Little Turkey 1 Mile at 8:30 a.m. and 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run at 9 a.m. Registration starts at $12 at abqtrot.com. Balloon Fiesta Park is located at 5500 Balloon Fiesta Parkway NE.

Critter communication

Delve into the world of “Animal Languages” with Scribes 8 at the Open Space Visitor Center. The art exhibit, which runs through Dec. 6, explores animals and their communications. The Open Space Visitors Center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW. The visitors center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and will be closed Thanksgiving.

A festive occasion

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is hosting its Fall Festival at Avanyu Plaza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. The event will feature music from DJ Wae Fonky, Innastate and Def-I, a car show and more. Avanyu Plaza is located at 2400 12th St. NW, across from the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.

Brews and bites

The Great New Mexico Food Truck & Craft Beverage Festival is returning to Balloon Fiesta Park from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. Enjoy a day of food, beer and artisan vendors. Once upon a dream

New Mexico Young Actors are bringing “Enchanted Sleeping Beauty: The Legend of Briar Rose,” a hilarious musical adaptation of the classic fairytale, to the KiMo Theatre 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, and Sunday, Nov. 23. Tickets are $12-$14 at artsandculture.cabq.gov. The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Ave. NW.

Not wasting a word

West End Productions’ staging of “Translations” is closing out its run at the North Fourth Theatre with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23. Tickets are $22-$24, plus fees, at westendproductions.org.
