It’s Labor Day weekend.

Which means it’s time for the Harvest Wine Festival.

The festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, through Monday, Sept. 4, at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque and the Doña Ana County Fairgrounds in Las Cruces.

The two events showcase New Mexico wineries and their products.

“Every year is a new experience,” says Dean Strober, of Blue River Productions. “We are featuring about New Mexico wineries that are making New Mexico wine with New Mexico grown grapes. That’s the prerequisite.”

The Harvest Wine Festival in Albuquerque is marking its sixth year. The event grew from the Wine and Jazz Festival, which was held prior to the Harvest Wine Festival taking over the Labor Day slot.

Strober says the Harvest Wine Festival is the last chance where so many wineries will be on hand for tastings.

“Visitors also have an opportunity to meet the winemakers,” he says. “Otherwise, you’d have to drive around the entire state to get to the different wineries.”

Returning this year are the dueling pianos – which is something Strober looks forward to.

“There are two world-class pianists playing audience favorites, and you can make your request,” he says. “It’s a really awesome experience because it’s something different. We partner with Uptown Funk Dueling Piano to bring it to the Harvest Wine Festival. I think it sets us apart because it is so different.”

There will also be vendors, both food and homemade goods, on site.

Strober says there will be a silent disco, as well as miniature golf and painting classes.

“The draw is unlimited wine tastings,” he says with a laugh. “It’s all about discovering new wines. It’s also a great time to do holiday shopping.”

Every ticket includes $5 off a bottle of wine.

Strober reminds guests to drink responsibly and to check the Facebook page for the Harvest Wine Festival for Uber codes.

“Nothing is more important than having people get home safe,” Strober says.
