Albuquerque businessman accused of felony tax evasion
A man who ran a landscaping business in Albuquerque is accused of tax evasion.
Dennis Pyle, 52, is charged with 12 counts of felony tax evasion for alleged fraudulent taxes relating to his excavation and landscaping business, Earthtech Landscaping.
If convicted, Pyle could face up to 37 years in prison and $90,000 in fines.
Reached by phone Wednesday, Pyle’s wife said he was a good husband and a good man. His attorney was not available for comment.
Megan Gleason, spokesperson for the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, did not say how much Pyle allegedly avoided in taxes or his method of evasion, citing the pending litigation.
The indictment states the alleged tax evasions occurred between March 2020 and December 2022.
Pyle was indicted by a grand jury on Oct. 17 after a two-year investigation by the department’s Fraud Investigation Division, according to Gleason.
“Investigating individuals and businesses suspected of tax evasion requires diligence and patience, but TFID isn’t afraid to put in the hard work,” said interim TFID Director Joshua Hoffman.
The indictment is the seventh to be filed this year spurred by investigations undertaken by the department, Gleason said.
“New Mexico does not tolerate tax fraud, and these indictments serve as a reminder that the Taxation & Revenue Department is committed to tracking down tax criminals and pursuing justice,” said Tax and Rev Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke.
