Albuquerque Fire Rescue: Home explosion not caused by gas leak or drug lab
An investigator looks through the debris of a home that was completely destroyed on Nov. 23.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue says no evidence of a drug lab or gas leak was found after a home explosion Sunday shook an entire neighborhood and left a man seriously injured.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, AFR did not elaborate on other possible causes.
"Fire investigators have an open and active investigation into the cause of the explosion and fire," according to the post. "Investigators are continuing to work with witnesses and completing interviews. Updates will be provided as they are received."
AFR said the explosion itself — which left piles of debris around the neighborhood — "was isolated to the involved home."
At around 10:23 p.m., AFR responded to a call of an explosion in the 1000 block of Walker NE, near Lomas and Eubank.
When firefighters arrived, they found a home blown apart and on fire. The fire was quickly controlled and firefighters rescued a person from the home who hospitalized with serious injuries.
A neighboring home was also damaged by debris and a piece of roofing hung on a tree in the yard. Nobody in that home was injured, but had to find somewhere else to stay due to the damage.
